Wiring the Electric Panel for Charging Our Tesla

Our Model X came today...our Hot Wheels Model X that is!

As we wait for the delivery of our Tesla Model X, we are making preparations for charging at home. We already have the ability to charge outside under our carport using a 50 amp outlet. However, no such outlet currently exists in the garage, and that's where we primarily plan to park and charge the X.

I installed the NEMA 14-30 receptacle on the existing electrical subpanel cover. I also installed an energy meter beside it so we can measure the amount of power delivered to the Tesla.  Although the car will tell us how much energy goes into the battery, it won't tell us how much energy is used by the car to charge. The little power meter will tell us how much energy is used by the car to charge.

Watch the video for some cool time lapse footage of the install.
