Day 10 Tesla Ruby Perpendicular Autopark and Cheap Second Row Carpet Protection

The cute, little Bell trash can shown in the carpet portion of today's video can be found on Amazon.

So, one of our viewers asked us about perpendicular Autopark. Yesterday, we demoed parallel Autopark. So, today, we decided to do a perpendicular Autopark demo today. It didn't go quite as smoothly mostly because we couldn't get the car to recognize valid parking spaces with the little pop up P symbol on the drivers dash display. We were trying in smaller parking lots, so we headed to the bigger Wal-Mart lot. There, we had immediate success. We theorize that possibly driving past more parking spaces, available or not, may give the car time to realize it's in a parking situation. At any point, once the P popped up, the car did a great job of parking. Don felt it might have been a tad slower then yesterday's efficient parallel park. The car did have to pull forward, straighten out, and start backing one time, but surely a real human might have had to do that too.

We also went into Wal-Mart and bought an inexpensive runner style carpet to lay across the carpet area of the second row carpet in our Model X. Since we have the new center console option, there is no floor mat that you can purchase in the Tesla.com shop.  The carpet that comes with the car is great, but I wanted something back there to protect it. We had a discussion about using two smaller rugs or one larger rug and went with the larger one. With smaller rugs, they are more easily removed and shaken out. With a larger rug, there's less chance of dirt getting underneath it I think. When we got the rug home, Don cut out a spot for the center console, used a soldiering gun to melt the fibers and prevent shredding in the cut area, and I used a permanent marker to darken the cut area. It fit perfectly, and we were pleased.  Note that it does cover the seat tracks but the rug is flexible and easily slides out of the way or can be flipped over.

We got Ruby back in the garage just before a summer rain shower hit. All Don's hard work with yesterday's car wash is protected!
