Don read an article in the News and Observer newspaper last week that raved about the food at the Seaboard Station Restaurant in Hamlet, NC. Besides good food at the restaurant, the article also talked about the restored Hamlet Depot and Museum with all kinds of cool train history and memorabilia. We waited for a good day to go, and today seemed like the right time. Johnny loves trains and of course the special treat of eating out on his birthday.
Oh, yeah, Johnny turned 13 today! Woo hoo! The waterpark was his main present, but he also got a few small things today to commemorate the occasion.
The ride to Hamlet was about 90 miles and 1 hour and 45 minutes. Don had charged Ruby to near 100%, and she told us we'd get home with about 35% range left.
We ended up driving 168 miles at 316 wh/mi. We left around 12:30PM and got back around 5:15PM.
The museums were fun and informative. I especially liked talking to Sam Hill who worked on the layouts in the Depot and to another older gentlemen who used to work on maintaining the tracks in Hamlet. What a wonderful treasure and opportunity to immerse ourselves in living history.
We ate so much for lunch that we just had light salads for dinner. I was glad for a night off.
